We were delighted to host the official opening of Ekitabu Offices in Malawi took place on September 5, 2023. The Ekitabu offices are located within the premises at the Kwathu Innovation & Creative Centre.

About Ekitabu

Ekitabu is a renowned organization with offices in multiple countries, including the United States, Rwanda, with its main office located in Kenya. The event was attended by distinguished representatives from various institutions, including the Malawi National Library, Malawi Council for the Handicapped, Malawi Institute of Education, Technical, Entrepreneurial and Vocational Education and Training (TEVET) Authority, the Chief Disability Officer from the Department of Disability in the Ministry of Gender, Community Development, and Social Welfare, and the Guest of Honor Mrs Lucy Magagula, the Deputy Director of Inclusive Education from the Ministry of Education.

Meeting Highlights

1. Welcome and Introduction

The event commenced with a warm welcome to all attendees by Mirriam Mhango, Ekitabu’s MERL Manager for Malawi. 

2. Overview of Ekitabu’s Mission and Work

The Project Manager from Ekitabu Betty Wisiki, provided an insight of Ekitabu’s mission and work. She emphasized the organization’s commitment to delivering accessible content for quality education in local languages through their open architecture, global collection of digital content, and ecosystem partners.

3. Networking Business Breakfast

     The Attendees had a business breakfast where they had the opportunity to network.

4. New Facilities and Their Significance

The attendees were given a tour of the newly established Ekitabu office in Malawi, Lilongwe. The facility includes state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure designed to facilitate Ekitabu’s mission of inclusive education. 

5. Closing remarks

The Deputy Director of Inclusive Education from the Ministry of Education, serving as the Guest of Honor, expressed appreciation for Ekitabu’s efforts and highlighted the importance of accessible  and Inclusive education in Malawi.
